Overview


The twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva are located in different parts of the country. They are known as 12 Jyotirling. These jyotirlingas are positioned in eight states i.e. Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamilnadu, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. According to the Puranas, Lord Shiva himself appeared at 12 places. It is believed in the Hindus that the person who takes the name of these twelve Jyotirlingas at the time of morning and evening every day, the sins of last seven generations of their lives are erased. Jyotirlinga has a special place in Hinduism and is worshiped as a symbol of the eternal form of Lord Shiva.
