Mani Mahesh Lake Yatra

Mani Mahesh Lake Yatra

The Manimahesh Yatra is famous for being a test of faith and devotion. It's a pilgrimage to the foot of the Manimahesh Kailas, which is believed to be the dwelling of Lord Shiva. The name Manimahesh signifies the crystal/gem that sits on top of Shiva's (Mahesh) head The Manimahesh Yatra is a pilgrimage trek that takes place in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, India. The trek lasts 15–20 days and begins on the day of Janamasthmi, also known as "Chota Snan". It ends on the day of Radha Ashtami, also known as "Bada Snan". The trek to Manimahesh Lake is 14 kilometers long. It starts at the Hadsar base camp at around 6,000 feet and ends at the 13,500-foot high Manimahesh Lake. The trail is rugged and there are many steep ascents and descents. However, the panoramic views of the snow-capped mountains make the effort worthwhile.
