Panch Badri

The Panch Badri refers to the five sacred temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, India. Together, they form an important pilgrimage circuit for devotees of Vishnu and are deeply tied to the spiritual and religious heritage of the region. The Panch Badri temples are: Badrinath, Yogadhyan Badri, Bhavishya Badri, Adi Badri, and Vriddha Badri.

Badrinath

Located at an altitude of 3,133 meters, Badrinath is the most prominent and revered among the Panch Badri temples. Situated on the banks of the Alaknanda River, it is one of the Char Dham pilgrimage sites. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, who is worshipped here in his form as Badrinarayan, seated in a meditative pose. The temple remains open between April and November due to heavy snowfall during the winter months.

Yogadhyan Badri

Situated at Pandukeshwar, Yogadhyan Badri is where it is believed that King Pandu, the father of the Pandavas from the Mahabharata, meditated to atone for his sins. The idol of Vishnu here is seated in a meditative pose, symbolizing deep spiritual practice.

Bhavishya Badri

Located near Joshimath, Bhavishya Badri is believed to be the future seat of Lord Vishnu. According to Hindu belief, when the current Badrinath becomes inaccessible due to natural calamities, Lord Vishnu will manifest at Bhavishya Badri.

Adi Badri

Adi Badri is part of the Badri Kshetra and consists of 16 ancient temples, some of which date back to the Gupta period. It is believed that Adi Shankaracharya established this temple to promote the worship of Vishnu.

Vriddha Badri

Vriddha Badri, situated near Joshimath, is the place where Lord Vishnu is worshipped as an old man, or “Vriddha”. According to legend, the temple was established before the other Badri temples.
Together, the Panch Badri temples offer devotees a journey through both sacred geography and spiritual evolution, making them a significant pilgrimage destination in India.
